St Lawrences appoint legend McKeever as coach
St Lawrences Gaelic football club are pleased to announce the appointment of former Derry legend, All Ireland winner and All Star Kieran McKeever as their new trainer. Kieran McKeever has had a distinguished club and county career that has seen him collect an All-Ireland Medal, an Allstar, several National Leagues and Ulster Championships as well as many titles with his native club Dungiven. The Yellow Bellies will be hoping his experience can rub off on them.
Senior manager Jimmy Wray was delighted to have Kieran on board “It’s a fantastic coup for the club to have somebody of Kieran’s stature involved in training, its no surprise that numbers at training have increased, as well as the intensity and effort being put into training by the lads.”
Jimmy added “We were really pleased that Kieran agreed to take us as we know several other clubs in the county had approach him with a view to training them, But thanks must go to former senior manager Tom Fox who had the deal wrapped up a few months ago.”
McKeever who has been in Manchester since September was more than happy to become involved “When I was asked I was delighted to help out. Once the GAA is in you it never leaves you, and if can do my bit to promote GAA in Britain while I’m over here all the better.”
St Lawrences Vice-Chairman, Sean Hackett was as surprised as anyone with appointment and couldn’t believe the clubs luck in attracting somebody of Kieran experience;
“Kieran is a legend in Derry hurling and football, God knows why he has agreed to train us. If we are serious about anything this year, getting down to training with Kieran is going to be the test.”
